If your modem or router is using IP address 192.168.1.1 to register itself on the network but you cannot login to it by navigating to http://192.168.1.1/ then you need to check if one of the following is true:
  • Verify if your router or modem is really registering itself with 192.168.1.1 IP. You can check the required steps below for different operating systems.
  • Verify if your device connected to the mobile network or local network. If you are connected to a mobile network you won't be able to administer your router via 192.168.1.1 IP address. You will need to set up a static IP address accessible from outside of your home network.
  • If you know that your router or modem is using 192.168.1.1 and you still cannot login to it by typing http://192.168.1.1 in your browser address bar you need to check if you are connected to the correct Wi-Fi or local network. If you have more than one router in your home or multiple wi-fi networks it is possible that you are connected to the one with a different router IP address.

Check if router is assigned with 192.168.1.1 IP on Windows

Windows 7 and 10

  • Click on the 'Start' button and type "cmd" in search box.
  • This will open an MSDOS command window. Type "ipconfig" there and press Enter.

Find the line which starts with "Default Gateway IP". Check if it has 192.168.1.1 in it. If it doesn't then your router is using a different IP address as shown in that line. Use this address to administer your router.

Windows XP

  • Click on the 'Start' button and choose "Run...".
  • Type "cmd" in the prompt and press Enter.
  • MSDOS command window will open. Type "ipconfig" in it and press Enter.

Find the line which starts with "Default Gateway IP". Check if it has 192.168.1.1 in it. If it doesn't then your router is using a different IP address as shown in that line. Use this address to administer your router.

Check if router is assigned with 192.168.1.1 IP on Linux

  • Open a command window and type any of the commands: "router", "netstat -nr", "ip route show"
  • Find the Gateway column in the output table and look for the router IP in it.
  • If IP address in Gateway column matches 192.168.1.1 it means that your router is using it. Otherwise, use IP which is displayed in Gateway column to administer your router.

Check if router is assigned with 192.168.1.1 IP address on iOS

  • Click the home button or swipe up from the bottom of the screen on new devices to get to a home screen.
  • Select Settings
  • Select Wi-Fi
  • Choose Wi-Fi network which is managed by your router.
  • You will see your router IP in the Router row. If it matched 192.168.1.1 then it means that your router is using it. Otherwise, use IP which is displayed in Gateway column to administer your router.
